Painting Workshops for 2018
Cowdray Park, Midhurst, West Sussex.
Master classes on traditional renaissance painting techniques and traditional craft practices. Workshops include Egg Tempera, gilding techniques, renaissance oil painting, Dutch still-life painting, mixed techniques of egg tempera and oil, making paints from nature derived from rocks and plants, perennial philosophy – art and the alchemical tradition.
All classes are open to professional artists and beginners, no previous experience is necessary.
January 22nd – 26th. Colour theory, composition, and the dynamics of colour – tone relationships.
Exploring traditional colour theory; colour harmony and its relationship to musical structure through the use of harmonic triads and the major/minor scales. Students will do a number of studies in oil exploration different colour harmonies, incorporated into a classical 17th century approach to underpainting and glazing.
February 12th – 16th Dutch still-life painting techniques of the 17th century
February 19th – 23rd. Classical oil painting techniques of the 16th/17th centuries.
March 5th – 9th. Egg tempera painting techniques of the Florentine schools of the 14th and 15th centuries
March 19th – 23rd. Alchemy of Colour. Colour and cosmology – extracting traditional pigments from mineral and plant kingdom and learning how to make paints using traditional recipes.
April 23rd – 27th. Flemish technique of egg tempera an oil as practiced in the 15th/16th centuries.
May 7th – 11th. Traditional egg tempera and gilding techniques of Italian Schools of the 14th and 15th centuries.
May 28th – 1st. June Dutch still-life painting techniques of the 17th century
June 11th – 15th. Classical landscape painting methods of the 17th and 18th century
25th – 29th. June Alchemy of colour, cosmology of colour and making pigments from nature.
July 7th -15th. Renaissance painting workshop in the heart of Tuscany, Italy. The workshop will be held in a private castle in Monte Amiata. Places will be limited to 12. To book see http://www.potentino.com/
